“What you seek is seeking you.”- Rumi
Imbolc marks the point between the Winter Solstice and Spring Equinox, and its traditions stem from Celtic celebrations of the first stirrings of spring. Here in Canada, we are still far from any signs of spring, but the light is noticeably increasing and along with it, the hope and optimism of warmer days to come. New life is forming underground, in the belly of the Earth Mother, not yet visible to us. It is a wonderful time for cultivating childlike wonder, new dreams, goals and aspirations. What we seek is seeking us, too!
Imbolc is said to be derived from old Irish, meaning ‘in the belly’ referring to pregnant and lactating ewes. The promise of new birth and the nourishment of ewe’s milk signify the hope and renewal this season symbolises. The Celtic goddess Brigid is also venerated at this time. She is a goddess of healing, fertility, the hearth, smithcraft and poetry who later became St.Brigid.
In Wales, this celebration is called Gwyl Mair, the feast of Mary, and it aligns with the Christian Candlemas and our Groundhog day, with overlapping themes of purification, light, divining the future and preparation for spring.
It is a time for cleansing the home, altars, and your life from outworn habits to prepare a path for new life.
On an archetypal level, the time of Imbolc is when the Elder/Crone energy of Winter rebirths itself into the Infant/Child energy. Often our biggest obstacles to feeling inspired or moving forward in life stem from childhood wounds, so this is an optimal time to heal and nourish our Inner Child. Embracing our innocence, openness, hope and new ways of being will help us on our path.

In this online circle, we will discuss the themes of Imbolc and learn different methods of energetic cleansing for our self and our space. We will do a guided meditation journey to connect with our Inner Child and integrate their wisdom into our intentions for 2023. Together, we will also do an effective, yet simple ritual to nurture our intentions into manifestation!
All are welcome to this online circle- all genders, paths, and those new to these circles. Participants are encouraged to share and interact, however it is not mandatory. Our intention is always to cultivate safe and sacred space for one another. If you are new to the Hearthfire Circles, you may wish to learn about them here.

As a Witch who makes her home and practice in Tkaronto (Toronto) Ontario, I deeply thank the original stewards of this land: The Mississaugas of the Credit, Mississaugas of Scugog, Alderville, Hiawatha & Curve Lake; The Chippewas of Beausoleil, Rama & Georgina island, the Haudenosaunee and Wendat nations. I acknowledge the resilience of the First Nation, Inuit and Metis people who live and work here in the present, in a system of inequity and oppression. I am working on uncolonising my own practice, amplifying Indigenous voices, addressing cultural appropriation in pagan communities and supporting Indigenous communities in whatever way I can.
