Beltane Circle: Nourishing Our Inner Garden

“Large streams from little fountains flow; Tall oaks from little acorns grow’

– 14th century proverb

*This Circle is in-person in Toronto, ON. If you are new to the Hearthfire Circles, please learn more here.

Beltane is the anglicized name for Bealtaine, which is a Gaelic fire festival of fertility, cleansing and protection. In Wales it is called Calan Mai. It was customary to cleanse and protect cattle by running them through two bonfires as they go out into the summer fields. Sacred fires and ash were used to bless and protect crops for the coming summer season.

This is considered the beginning of summer in the UK traditions and is a time of growth and fertility. The faeries are also out causing mischief, hence the need for protection and appeasing them. In England, Germany and throughout Europe the beginning of May is a time of celebration, including dancing around the Maypole, decorating with flowers, honoring love, beauty and growth.

Here in Canada this year we’re still the early stages of spring, where we can finally see new life budding and sprouting all around us. The Earth Mother is awakening and growing, and with it comes the opportunity for us to manifest alongside her! This is a time for tending our garden and planting seeds-both in our physical gardens and in our psyche. It is a great season for nourishing our dreams, desires, and needs with tangible actions.

The sun is now in the earth sign of Taurus, so our focus turns to security, stability, beauty, fertility and sensuality. Taurus understands the trust and patience required to grow plants, and that the journey to manifestation must be sustainable and enjoyable. Small, everyday actions can have a profound impact.

It is a wonderful time to nourish our body and really lean into the wisdom of our senses. Allow rest, nourishing foods, feel-good movement and music, and all forms of self-care to support you while pursuing your passions and dreams.

Reconnect with the Earth if you’ve been holed up inside! Lean against a tree and listen to its whisperings, hold a rock in your hand to feel its ancient wisdom, get your hands dirty planting a flower garden, or simply go for a walk and breathe in the fresh air!

Beltane Circle:

Join us around my hearth in Toronto, to celebrate this time of nourishment and renewal! We will discuss the themes of the season and give ourselves the gift of receiving what we need. We will go on a guided meditation journey to our Inner Enchanted Garden. Here, we will refuel our energy, be inspired, and cultivate this inner space to help us manifest our dreams into reality.

Then, we will create Spell Bottles to support manifesting what we’d like to grow and cultivate this season. These will contain herbs, crystals, healing messages, and other objects, sealed with wax.

We will feast, share, play with oracle cards and nourish our senses. I hope you can join us! Info below.

Success! You're on the list.

As a Witch who makes her home and practice in Tkaronto (Toronto) Ontario, I deeply thank the original stewards of this land: The Mississaugas of the Credit, Mississaugas of Scugog, Alderville, Hiawatha & Curve Lake; The Chippewas of Beausoleil, Rama & Georgina island, the Haudenosaunee and Wendat nations. I acknowledge the resilience of the First Nation, Inuit and Metis people who live and work here in the present, in a system of inequity and oppression. I am working on uncolonising my own practice, amplifying Indigenous voices, addressing cultural appropriation in pagan communities and supporting Indigenous communities in whatever way I can.
