Imbolc Circle: Awakening Our Inner Hearth

“If light is in your heart, you will find your way home.”- Rumi

This is an in-person circle at my home in Toronto, Friday, Feb 6th 2026 @ 7pm-10pm. If you are unfamiliar with the Hearthfire Circles, learn about them here.

Imbolc means ‘in the belly’ in old Irish, referring to pregnant and lactating ewes. This is the peak of lambing season in the UK. The promise of new birth and the nourishment of ewe’s milk signify the hope and renewal this season symbolizes. The Celtic goddess Brigid is also venerated at this time. As winter wanes, the hag of winter, The Cailleach transforms into the bright, youthful maiden Brigid- goddess of healing, fertility, inspiration, the hearth, smithcraft and poetry who later became St.Brigid.

In Wales this celebration is called Gwyl Mair, the feast of Mary. It aligns with the Christian Candlemas and our Groundhog day with overlapping themes of purification, light, divining the future and preparation for spring.

Here in Canada, we are still far from spring. Life is awakening, but it is down deep beneath the soil, stirring, yet invisible. Imbolc asks us to cultivate faith and patience. As the light noticeably increases, so does clarity on the new life incubating within.

Similar to it’s opposite season of summer harvest, Lammas, we can gather our resources and prepare for a season of change ahead. But instead of preparing for an inner journey, we prepare to birth some aspect of ourselves into the world.

This is a wonderful time for visioning and gentle nurturance of new dreams and aspirations that may be stirring, or a part of us that wishes to come out into the light. It is a time for some tenderness and care as we are not quite who we were and not yet who we wish to become. Honor and protect the light growing within. Tend your inner hearth flame by nourishing it with loving words, activities and practices that cultivate your faith.

Imbolc also calls us to heal and release blockages holding us back from pursuing our dreams, and to let go of all that dims your inner light.

Many pagan traditions use this time for cleansing the home, altars, and our life from outworn habits to prepare a pathway for new life. Some of us dedicate or re-dedicate to our deities and spiritual practices, and reconnect with our values and guiding principles. We gently nurture the tender seeds of new life within us, so that they can grow into a beautiful future.

Imbolc Circle Friday, Feb 6th 2026 in-person in Toronto:

In this in-person circle, we will discuss the themes of the season and how they manifest in our lives. We will awaken our ‘inner hearth’- which is the life-sustaining light within us. Our inner hearth is likened to our inner flame of inspiration, life, passion, and creativity that brings us home to our authentic self. We will do this by going on a guided meditation journey with the goddess Brigid to renew our inner light and release blockages followed by some reflection questions. We will do a candle ritual of blessing and planting our intentions for the season ahead. Oracle cards, tea, snacks and community to follow!
